Anti-Biofilm Biomimetic Structures: A New Solution for Medical Device Preservation

Preventing bacterial contamination during the long-term use and storage of Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lenses for vision correction has long been a critical pain point in the medical field. Recently, Quantum NIL, in collaboration with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), successfully developed a novel biomimetic structure capable of resisting biofilm formation. The technology has completed its Proof of Concept (PoC) and a patent application has been filed. With formal research findings slated for publication soon, this breakthrough is expected to provide a highly effective solution for the preservation and antibacterial management of medical devices.


Deep-rooted in nano-imprint lithography (NIL) technology, Quantum NIL focuses on the precision manufacturing of wafer-level compound semiconductor materials, strategically expanding into optical communications, biomedical diagnostics, meta-optics, and quantum technology. Dr. Sean Lin, CEO of Quantum NIL, noted that the R&D team is currently conceptualizing the application of quantum mechanics interpretations to the development of next-generation biochips, aiming to bring disruptive breakthroughs to cell diagnostics. Furthermore, the company is heavily investing in nanofluidics technology for gene sequencing applications. Core patents for these innovations are expected to be granted shortly, paving the way for the company to enter the global core supply chain.


Leveraging Precision Manufacturing to Accelerate Deep Tech Commercialization

In late June, Sean Lin traveled to the UK to visit Trinity College at the University of Cambridge, meeting with Dr. Amit Agrawal, Professor in the Department of Engineering. The two engaged in in-depth discussions on the cutting-edge applications of quantum optics and artificial intelligence (AI), sharing a mutual vision to accelerate the transition of quantum optics technology from the lab to commercialization. Leveraging its unique precision manufacturing and mass production capabilities, Quantum NIL aims to help the academic sector translate forward-looking R&D into viable commercial products.

Dr. Sean Lin emphasized that quantum technology is widely regarded by the industry as the next "star sector" following the AI boom. Driven by favorable global policies and massive market demand, its commercialization is rapidly accelerating. While AI excels at deep data analysis and local optimization, quantum computing promises exponential leaps in processing power for specific complex problems. The deep integration of both could unlock immense commercial value across various industries. In weather forecasting, for instance, leveraging quantum computing to process massive and highly complex data models could dramatically enhance both efficiency and accuracy.


Global Optical Communications Sector Evolves Rapidly: Taiwan Must Keep Pace

Sean Lin pointed out the surging interest from capital markets in the quantum tech sector. The successful NASDAQ listing of US-based quantum computing leader Quantinuum Inc. in early June triggered enthusiastic market responses, signaling investors' optimistic outlook on the commercial viability of quantum technology. This also sends a clear message: quantum tech is rapidly moving beyond the long-term theoretical research stage and entering practical industrial application.

During his UK tour, Sean Lin also visited Lumentum, a global leader in optical communications, to investigate the latest developments in 4- to 6-inch laser wafer technology and explore future collaborative opportunities. He highlighted that micro-optical fibers and laser light sources are indispensable core components in today’s AI data centers. As leading US and European tech giants continue to ramp up technology iterations and supply chain restructuring, the global optical communications industry is entering a phase of accelerated upgrades. Taiwanese players must keep pace to maintain their global competitiveness.

Dr. Sean Lin also has deep ties with IQE, a UK-based giant in compound semiconductor epitaxial wafers. Taking advantage of this trip, he visited IQE again, confirming that the collaboration between MA-COM and IQE has evolved from a traditional customer relationship into a strategic partnership. Notably, IQE signed a long-term supply agreement with Tower Semiconductor in mid-June, aiming to further integrate upstream and downstream supply chain resources and strengthen its strategic footprint in the global AI optical communications market.


Expanding Global Footprint and Launching Series A Funding

Quantum NIL is actively expanding its international footprint and broadening its global ecosystem. In the first half of this year, the company participated in the SelectUSA Investment Summit and attended several international conferences in Japan. At the COMPUTEX InnoVEX 2026 startup pitch contest in June, Quantum NIL’s Deep Tech semiconductor project won the prestigious "Future Star Award," underscoring its hardcore technological innovation and immense market potential.


Looking ahead to the second half of the year, Quantum NIL will maintain strong momentum in international collaborations, further promoting its business model overseas and amplifying brand visibility. To bolster its service delivery capabilities in key overseas markets and its forward-looking technology applications, the company plans to officially launch its Series A funding round in the near future.
